New Paintings

I’ve recently added two new paintings to my In Our Veins series.  The first is The Ties That Bind, an acrylic on canvas, 6″ wide by 12″ high and is available through Wally Workman Gallery in Austin, TX.  Next is a new small painting, Full Circle, also acrylic on canvas, and is 4″ x 4″ square.  Both paintings deal with the life cycle and how everything eventually becomes part of the earth, continuously nourishing and fostering new life.  We often forget that everything has a role in nature, which The Ties That Bind serves as a reminder of this.  Every species is connected and to remove one creates a domino effect leading back to us.  Get a better view of each painting here www.amyguidry.com/ties_that_bind.html and www.amyguidry.com/full-circle.html.

Best of Show

"Symbiotic" by Amy Guidry; acrylic on canvas; 11"w x 14"h; (c) Amy Guidry 2010

I had a nice surprise this weekend when I found out my painting Symbiotic received “Best of Show” in the Surreal Salon IV.  As a result, Symbiotic will be featured in ads in future issues of both Juxtapoz and Hi-Fructose magazine as the winner of the Surreal Salon.  I was excited just to have been accepted into the exhibit since these types of competitions receive hundreds of entries from all over the country.  The fact that two of the paintings I entered were selected was big for me, so winning the Best of Show award is beyond words.  It means a lot, especially in such a subjective field, and if I were a writer perhaps I could better explain this, but those of you who are artists know what I mean.  If you have not seen the show, there is still time as it will be up through the 26th (Thursday!) at the Baton Rouge Gallery – Center for Contemporary Art in Baton Rouge, LA.  Both my paintings The Pack and Symbiotic are featured and can be found on my website at www.amyguidry.com/symbiotic.html as well as in the online catalog of the entire show at http://issuu.com/batonrougegallery/docs/surrealsalon4.

Wolfpack

"Wolfpack" by Amy Guidry; acrylic on canvas; 12" x 12"; (c) Amy Guidry 2012

I’ve just finished my first painting of the New Year!  This is another new addition to the In Our Veins series titled Wolfpack.  It is an acrylic on canvas, 12″ by 12″ square.  I went through, on average, one paintbrush per wolf head on this one.  I build up the colors in each layer and then start adding layers of hairs, working my way up to the lighter hairs, therefore my paintbrush takes a beating.  Well worth it, though, since I am pleased with the outcome.  This is a “sister piece” to my painting The Pack (which is one of the paintings I will have featured in the Surreal Salon at the Baton Rouge Gallery- Center for Contemporary Art!).  You can check out both paintings on my website and for a better view of Wolfpack, visit www.amyguidry.com/wolfpack.html.

New Small Works

I’ve added two new small works to the In Our Veins series.  Both are acrylic on canvas, 4″ by 4,” and $100 each.  I just had better photos taken of them, hence the late post.  The first painting is titled “Interdependent” and the next one is “Untitled (Desert).” I use tiny paintbrushes on all my work, but they are especially useful for these small paintings as they consist mostly of tiny little dabs and lines of paint.  The photos here are rather small, so you can view them full-size on my website at www.amyguidry.com/interdependent.html and www.amyguidry.com/untitled04.html.

New Small Paintings

I recently added two new small paintings to the In Our Veins series.  My latest newsletter featured both paintings (which if you would like to receive, sign up information is here: www.amyguidry.com/contact.html) and there is still one available.  The titles are Generate and Ephemeral, each are 4″ x 4,” acrylic on canvas.  Generate (sold) pertains to the life cycle and how life continues, hence the flowers growing out of the wolf’s back.  Ephemeral is still available ($100- contact me if interested) and features a moth with a heart, ribcage, and vertebrae superimposed upon it.  The premise of the painting is the importance of life- so fragile, precious, and short, in the scheme of things- and serves as a reminder to live life to the fullest.  Both paintings can be viewed (larger) on my website at www.amyguidry.com/ephemeral.html.

Cornucopia

After much digging through photos and picking the “best” ones to post, I am finally posting one of my latest paintings.  This is another addition to my In Our Veins series titled Cornucopia.  (Totally a coincidence on the timing, given it is the week of Thanksgiving.)  It is an acrylic on canvas, 10″ wide by 8″ high and is available through Wally Workman Gallery in Austin, TX.  I’ve documented my painting during my process and have a few photos to share.  I apologize for the poor quality except for the very last photo- which was professionally done.  I’m not the best with a digital camera, but feel that these photos still get the point across.  Just click the images below for a larger view.

New painting (Sold)

"Untitled (Deer)" by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 4" x 4"; (c) Amy Guidry 2011; SOLD

I’ve just added two new paintings to the In Our Veins series- one of which I will post later since I’ll be including photos from my actual painting process, so be on the lookout.  The other is a small painting, 4″ x 4,” acrylic on canvas, titled Untitled (Deer).  These small paintings are pretty popular in that they sell almost immediately.  Which is why I am posting a new piece that is already sold.  I will be adding more at this size, in addition to a variety of sizes, but I give my subscribers the first viewing.  So if you would like the opportunity to see my latest work and purchase it while it’s still available, please sign up for my newsletter.  Facebook posts have a short shelf-life, as do Twitter, so this latest painting sold before anyone even knew about it.  The newsletter is monthly and also gives a concise list of where I’m exhibiting at the moment as well as other news.  You can sign up at www.amyguidry.com/contact.html (just click on the “newsletter” icon).

Small Works $100 and less

"Untitled" by Amy Guidry; acrylic on canvas; 4" x 4"; SOLD

I have just added a new addition to the In Our Veins series.  Untitled is the latest small painting to be added and the second one at my new 4 inch by 4 inch size.  I like to work in a range of sizes depending on the amount of visual information and am currently working on a larger piece.  These new small sizes are the smallest works I’ve ever done in my career and at $100 or less,  they appeal to a range of collectors, new and old.  If you’ve been following my work, you know that I do not sell “prints” and only offer original, one-of-a-kind paintings.  I conducted a poll through my Facebook Fan Page and found that everyone was interested in owning original art, whether small or large, rather than a reproduction.  As an art collector myself, I happen to agree.  I like knowing that the work is original, in addition, I love to see the texture of the paint and the 3-dimensional quality of it.  You just can’t get that in a [giclée, print, copy].  But not everyone can afford art- even if it’s only $500- so I have always offered small works to fit everyone’s budget.  And even though my new series has had a change in technique and materials, thus more time-consuming, I have worked with the subject matter to keep the price low and still maintain a high value.  Hence my latest painting, which you can see larger on my website at www.amyguidry.com/untitled02.html.

New Painting

"Means to an End" by Amy Guidry; 4" x 4"; acrylic on canvas; (c) Amy Guidry; SOLD

A little while back I had conducted a poll on Facebook in an effort to get a better idea of what people prefer- original art or prints?  Everyone voted for original art.  Everyone.  Most of those preferred a small original, though, so with that in mind, I started working on some smaller paintings to round out my latest series.  So I’m happy to announce I’ve posted the first one- “Means to an End.”  It is an acrylic on canvas, 4 inches by 4 inches for $100.  I’m playing with subject matter to keep the price low and the value high.  Right now the painting is listed on Facebook (though eventually on my website), so you can view it at this direct link: Facebook Fan Page.

New Video

I’m excited about my latest project.  I have just posted a new video to my YouTube channel featuring my painting process in a 30 second time-lapse video!  The painting featured is “Interconnected” which you just saw me post last week. I had posted a few photos of my process but the video uses 89 photos which I had taken of the painting as I worked- it’s a 6″ x 6″ painting, so the smaller size worked well for this project seeing as I had to frequently stop to photograph it.  The video shows the piece from start to finish, taking a 2+ week period and converting it into 30 seconds.  If only it were that easy…  You can check out the video by clicking the image above or go to YouTube at http://youtu.be/ExH6dRoV3KU.
