Making a lot of progress on my current painting for Cactus Gallery’s upcoming show. I was invited to create a piece for “The Revival,” an exhibition exploring life, death, rebirth and growth represented with natural imagery. I’m currently working on the little leaves in this piece. Will post the finished painting soon. If you’d like to be updated when it is finished, sign up for my newsletter here: https://amyguidry.com/contact.html. “The Revival” opens September 8th at Cactus Gallery in Los Angeles.
I’m taking a break from my rainforest painting and currently working on another new painting for the upcoming “The Revival” exhibition at Cactus Gallery in Los Angeles. This show explores life, death, rebirth and growth represented with natural imagery. This is a close-up of the cheetah’s face and hair which I am currently “building” (seems like the best way to phrase it given the multiple layers of paint leading up to more and more refined line work). This piece is an acrylic on canvas, 6″ wide by 6″ high. The exhibit will open September 8th at Cactus Gallery.
My paintings Dissociate and On the Rise are both in new homes. One is in England and the other in Texas. Different paintings, different countries, but both focus on our treatment of nature and animals. And both serve as a reminder of our connection to the world and our responsibility to care for it. On a side note, On the Rise can be seen in the new August 2018 issue of VIE Magazine. You can view both paintings as well as the rest of the In Our Veins series here: https://amyguidry.com/gallery.html.
New postcards of my painting Bestow are in! The back of the postcard also lists my upcoming exhibitions. If you’d like to receive one, you can sign up for the postcard mailing list on my website: https://amyguidry.com/contact.html. Just click the postcard icon to enter your mailing address.

I’m excited to share this article in the new issue of VIE Magazine. Sallie Boyles interviewed me for their Animal Issue / August 2018. You can check out the article in the print edition as well as this online version: http://viemagazine.com/article/the-nature-within-2/.
I’ve just finished a new small painting in my In Our Veins series. The title is Essence and it features a Southern white rhino. They are one of two subspecies of white rhinoceros and one of the largest and heaviest land animals in the world. Southern white rhinos are listed as Near Threatened due to habitat loss and poaching. The butterflies in this piece represent life- both are beautiful, fragile, and ephemeral. Essence is an acrylic on canvas, 4” wide by 4” high: https://amyguidry.com/essence.html.
A few photos of my current painting in progress. Focusing on the rainforest for this one, specifically the Amazon and its flora and fauna. Also wanted to work on a larger piece, so this one is 20″ wide by 20″ high. It’s heavily detailed courtesy of all the leaves and tree branches. Not to mention full of white-faced capuchin monkeys! The sketch on paper maps everything out before I transferred it to canvas. The painting itself is an acrylic on canvas. I’m still working on the rainforest background at the moment, and the blue morpho butterflies. Butterflies may be small, but they are hugely symbolic in my work.
