"Sandhya" by Amy Guidry; acrylic on canvas; (c) Amy Guidry 2011

Two more of my paintings have recently found new homes. (They are my babies, so I do think of them as growing up and finding homes of their own.) Both are from my 2005-2006 series of portraits- “Sandhya” and “Man in the Park.” They are both acrylic on canvas, and the same dimensions as well- 26 inches wide by 22 inches high, framed. “Man in the Park” is actually now in the permanent collection of the Alexandria Museum of Art in Alexandria, Louisiana.

As you may know from an earlier post, my website will be getting a makeover (it’s just going on behind the scenes so my site is still currently up and running). And since my portfolio is always expanding and there are very few portraits still available, I’ve decided to remove the portraits from the new site. You will still be able to enjoy them online elsewhere, though- such as this blog as well as my Facebook Fan Page. I’ll be revealing the new look soon, but in the meantime you can still check out all of my work at www.AmyGuidry.com.

549 in April

"Synergy" by Amy Guidry, acrylic on canvas, 8" x 10", (c) Amy Guidry 2011 If you live in Lafayette, Louisiana, or even in the Acadiana area, you are probably familiar with Gallery 549. Gallery 549 is one of several gallery hot-spots during Artwalk in downtown Lafayette, and one of my personal favorites to visit. So I’m happy to say that I will be showing there next month as part of the annual Spring group exhibition. I’ll be showing works from my “In Our Veins” series, all new and not previously exhibited- so this will be their debut! If you are in the area, this is your chance to see my work in person. I show all over the country, so I really love it when I have the opportunity to show in a local venue so that friends and family can attend. The opening reception will be held during the Second Saturday Artwalk in April (which will be April 9th) from 6-8pm. Hope to see you there!

Oh, and for those of you who are out of area, you can visit my work virtually at www.AmyGuidry.com.

"Kerry" by Amy Guidry, 2005, acrylic on canvas

This weekend I will be one of the artists featured in the Throwdown.1.5 auction to benefit the Prospect New Orleans Biennial. It’s for a great cause and it’s in New Orleans, so all the more reason to go! I am honored to be included amongst such great artists, some of which are from my own area. My painting “Kerry” from my 2005/2006 series will be up for auction. It is an acrylic on canvas, framed, and total size dimensions are 16″w x 13″h (view more of my work at www.AmyGuidry.com). The event will be held at Stage 3, Secondline Stages in New Orleans this Saturday, February 5th from 8-11pm. So if you are out and about for the artwalk, stop by afterwards. Tickets are available online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/146659.

Artists featured in the auction include: Wayne Amedee, Luis Cruz Azaceta, Kathleen Banton, Mark Bercier, Tim Best, Brice Bischoff, Jessica Bizer, Ralph Bourque, Hannah Chalew, Stephen Collier, Beth Dary, Luke Dubois, Aubrey Edwards, Lin Emery, Amy Guidry, Brian Guidry, Sally Heller, Chris Jahncke, Dick Johnson, Rachel Jones, Krista Jurisich, Les Lawrence, Charles Lovell, Sophie Lvoff, Carolyn McAdams, Natalie McLaurin, Michael Pajon, Francis X. Synergy

"Synergy" by Amy Guidry; acrylic on canvas; (c) Amy Guidry 2011

Another addition to the “In Our Veins” series! I’ve recently completed “Synergy” and it is now online. This is an acrylic on canvas, 8″ wide by 10″ high. These paintings have been smaller than some of my past works due to the detail. I spend so much time on them as it is, for me to go any larger would require several months just to finish one. That said, I’ve been working as large as needed for all the “visual information.” This is another piece pertaining to the life cycle- something I am fascinated with- and the original concept was something I visualized in that half asleep/half awake state after going to bed. This is why I keep a sketchbook (and pen) on my bedside table.

“Like a Prayer”- Opening Reception

I nearly forgot to post photos for the exhibition I have going on right now… the opening reception was in November, but the exhibit is currently open through December 30th. (So there’s still time to see it even if you are stuck in a shopping mall somewhere until the 25th.) I have a few photos to share from opening night for “Like a Prayer: Reflections on the 21st C Feminine” at Barrister’s Gallery in New Orleans, LA. More photos are on my website under Events- www.AmyGuidry.com. The show was curated by Martina Batan, Director of Ronald Feldman Fine Art, New York.  There was a great crowd and in conjunction with the St. Claude Arts District (SCAD) 2nd Saturday Artwalk, the Multispecies Salon 3 was also open. Very busy night! If you missed out, you can still see “Like a Prayer” at Barrister’s, now through Dec. 30th.

Museum Acquisition

"Jenny" by Amy Guidry; 2005; SOLD; acrylic on canvas; (c) Amy Guidry 2010

I have some great news to share- if you may recall, I had a solo exhibition earlier this year at the Schepis Museum in Columbia, LA. Well, my work is now in their permanent collection! I am honored that I am the first artist in the southwestern area of Louisiana to have their work included in the Louisiana Artists collection at the Schepis Museum. My painting, “Jenny,” is now in the collection and is one of my earlier works from 2005. It is an acrylic on canvas, 13″ wide by 16″ high, framed. As mentioned before, such small photos don’t do the work justice, so be sure to get a better look on my website. The direct link can be found here: www.AmyGuidry.com.

Also, don’t miss out on the opportunity to win one of my paintings! Sign up for my newsletter to be entered to win a work from my 5 x 5 New Realm series. Just click on the direct link and enter your email address for entry- www.AmyGuidry.com Sweepstakes.

Like a Prayer

"Inner Peace?" by Amy Guidry; acrylic on canvas; (c) Amy Guidry 2010

I’m sure you’re thinking that’s an interesting title… It’s actually the name of an upcoming show I will be in next week. “Like a Prayer: Reflections of the 21st C Feminine” is a group exhibition that will open November 13th at Barrister’s Gallery in New Orleans. The show was curated by Martina Batan, the director of Ronald Feldman Fine Art in New York. I’m excited to be in this show due to the lineup of artists as well as this being my first exhibit at Barrister’s Gallery. The opening coincides with the Artwalk held in the St. Claude Arts District of New Orleans. In addition, if you may recall, this is also the opening night of the Multispecies Salon, which I am also included in. (No worries, both events take place in the same arts district.) Prospect 1.5 (preview to the Prospect 2 Biennial) will also be taking place during this time, so numerous galleries, museums, and alternative spaces have events scheduled. So if you happen to be in New Orleans this month, now is a great time to check out the art events.

“Like a Prayer” will be up November 13th through December 30th. The opening reception will be held from 6-9pm. For more information, visit this direct link to Barrister’s Gallery. For more information regarding my work, visit www.AmyGuidry.com.

New Painting!

My latest painting from my “In Our Veins” series is finished! The title of this piece is “Symbiotic” and it is an acrylic on canvas, 11″w x 14″h. I took photos as I went along to give some insight into my process of painting. I started with an initial sketch directly onto the canvas. After laying out the placement of all the animals and the tree roots, I started my first rough layer of paint. Then I continued to build upon the painting with several more layers, working a “section” at a time, each getting more detailed along the way.
