In Progress

A few photos of my current painting in progress.  I had started this painting just a few days before Grizzly bears were removed from Endangered Species status.  Sad, but fitting.  700 bears in the wild is not a high number, especially if there is a major disaster, and  to ensure no genetic mutations occur due to inbreeding.  Our priorities need to change.  So it’s fitting that I happened to choose a Grizzly as my subject for this piece.  We are steadily creating desert landscapes full of our garbage- in this case, a junkyard of cars- as we clear out the natural habitat of so many species, many endangered.  I used flowers growing out of the bear’s back as a reference to our connection to nature; this lone patch of flowers mirroring the small, shrinking natural landscape.

Art at Home

Sometimes I receive installation images from people after they’ve hung my work in their home.  It’s always nice to see my work again and how it looks in its new space, plus if it’s been included in groupings of work by other artists, that’s always nice to see.  So these are a few shots featuring paintings from my In Our Veins series and Beneath the Surface series.

Face to Face

These are a few photos from opening night for the “Face to Face” exhibition at LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans.  Artists represented by the gallery as well as a few new artists have created their own interpretation of portraiture, ranging from the traditional to the abstract.  The show is up now through July 29th, so there’s still time to see the exhibit.

“Adspectus” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 4″ x 4″; SOLD; (c) Amy Guidry 2017

I’ve just added a new painting to my In Our Veins series.  The title is Adpectus, which is Latin for vision, and it is an acrylic on canvas, 4″ wide by 4″ high.  This piece continues with the theme of organs on the outside of the body as a reminder of our shared biology.  It was featured in my April newsletter that went out yesterday, so it is already on its way to its new home in Israel.  View the painting online here: https://amyguidry.com/adspectus.html.

On another note, there is a current special offer on Life Force.  This piece is originally $200 and is now $150.  It is an acrylic on canvas, 6″ wide by 4″ high.  This offer expires May 14, 2017 (Mother’s Day).  View the painting online here: https://amyguidry.com/life-force.html and mention this offer.

Apocalypse Now

“Apocalypse Now- Amy Guidry’s Art Speaks of Her Fears for the Planet” by Patricia Gannon, The Advocate, April 2017

I’m happy to be able to announce that an interview I did with The Advocate is out now.  Patricia Gannon wrote the feature discussing my current series, In Our Veins, and the message behind it.  I’m going to quote myself right now, but I think it’s an important point to get across: “We’re capable of destruction but also absolutely amazing things.  We can live in harmony in a responsible manner.”  I create these paintings to provide a visual of what is going on with our planet, as well as what could be, as a reminder that we are all connected and should all do our part to preserve nature.  Read the interview here: http://www.theadvocate.com/acadiana/entertainment_life/patricia_gannon/article_f57aa1b8-0f15-11e7-8675-3f9ca702e2f4.html.
