Just finished this small painting from my In Our Veins series. Cohaereo, which is Latin for connected, is an acrylic on canvas, 4″ by 4.” The rabbit wears a collar of roses atop an exposed heart. The heart on the outside of the body serves as a reminder of our shared biology with all of life. The butterflies are a metaphor for life in that both are beautiful, fragile, and ephemeral. You can view the painting online here: https://amyguidry.com/Cohaereo.html.
Working on a few paintings at the moment- this small painting is currently in progress. I’ll be revealing the finished piece in my upcoming newsletter next week. (Sign up here for the first look at the finished painting.) This tiny bunny wears a collar of roses atop a giant heart. The butterflies represent life- both are beautiful, fragile, and ephemeral. It is an acrylic on canvas, 4″ wide by 4″ high.
A little preview of something I’m working on for an upcoming exhibit. The theme deals with animal spirits, which I was all set to paint a bear for this one and then had a strong inclination to paint a lion at the last minute (because I’m a Leo??). I also felt like I should go for a more monochromatic look- close to, at least. This is an acrylic on canvas, 6″ by 6.” I’ll be posting more info about the exhibit closer to time. Until then, check out more of this series here: https://amyguidry.com/gallery.html.
In anticipation of the exhibition I have coming up, I’m sharing my finished painting, Transformation. This piece was created for Wow X Wow’s second online exhibition, “Room of a Thousand Doors.” It’s an acrylic on canvas, 6″ by 6.” The exhibition opens this Friday, September 1st, 7PM BST through September 22, 2017. In the meantime, view the painting online here: https://amyguidry.com/transformation.html. Email sales(at)wowxwow(dot)com with any inquiries.
I’m excited to announce that I’ve been invited to participate in the upcoming “Room of a Thousand Doors” exhibit being held by Wow X Wow. I’ve been working on a new painting for this show, taking it in a slightly different direction (inspired by the theme of many paths to take). The intense, dark leafy background is a new approach for me. This is a progress shot of my painting- I’ll be revealing more over the next couple of weeks. It’s an acrylic on canvas, 6″ x .6″ The exhibit will be held online via Wow X Wow, opening September 1st 7pm BST.
Revealing my two paintings for the upcoming Coaster Show 2017 at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles, California. The coyote piece is titled Vitae, which is Latin for life. It is an acrylic on cardstock, 4″ tondo. The skull painting is titled Elucido, which is Latin for enlighten. It is also an acrylic on cardstock, 4″ tondo. Both will be on display as part of the exhibition opening September 1st (gallery reception that evening from 8-11pm). The exhibit runs September 1st through October 1st, 2017. Progress shot of my painting for the upcoming Coaster Show 2017 at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles. Now that I can officially announce it, this will be one of the pieces I have in the exhibit. It is an acrylic on cardstock, 4″ tondo. The show opens September 1st with a gallery reception from 8-11pm.
I’ve just finished both paintings previously featured while in progress. Pervasive and Sentiencewill both be on exhibit for the opening at LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans tomorrow (June 3, 2017). Pervasive has been a long time in the making. I’m sometimes asked if living in Louisiana affects my work. Given that my work deals with the welfare of our planet, many of the issues that Louisiana faces (habitat loss, flooding, BP oil spill, hurricanes) are something that I cover but on more of a global scale. Pervasive is one of the most direct pieces I’ve done, focusing on the conservation of Louisiana wildlife and wetlands. The BP oil spill not only affected the wildlife of Louisiana, but it continues to affect the wildlife of rest of the world to this day as bird and sea animals continue to migrate. It may be asking a lot of a painting, but I hope that it has a big impact.
Sentience was specifically created for the “Face to Face” exhibit opening at LeMieux Galleries. The exhibit features a range of interpretations of portraiture. In Sentience, the butterflies represent the beauty and fragility of life, while the third eye represents enlightenment. The eye is a human eye, referring to the fact that we are all members of the animal kingdom, and can see a bit of ourselves in the personalities of other animals. Sentience is an acrylic on canvas, 6″wide by 6″high.
Both paintings will be on view tomorrow, June 3rd for the opening reception from 6-8pm. The exhibit will remain up through July 29th, 2017.
While working on my pelican painting, I had another project come up. Here is a sneak peek of the work in progress- more will be revealed soon. It is an acrylic on canvas, 6″ wide by 6″ high. In the meantime, check out more paintings from this series here: https://amyguidry.com/gallery.html.
