A few photos of my current painting in progress. Focusing on the rainforest for this one, specifically the Amazon and its flora and fauna. Also wanted to work on a larger piece, so this one is 20″ wide by 20″ high. It’s heavily detailed courtesy of all the leaves and tree branches. Not to mention full of white-faced capuchin monkeys! The sketch on paper maps everything out before I transferred it to canvas. The painting itself is an acrylic on canvas. I’m still working on the rainforest background at the moment, and the blue morpho butterflies. Butterflies may be small, but they are hugely symbolic in my work.
I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and the New Year. Just discovered one of my paintings sold at LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans- a very nice way to start off the year. My painting Sentience was recently featured in Art Galleries & Artists of the South Magazine as part of a spread on LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans. Sentience has also found a new home. This was the first of my “butterfly eyes” paintings. The butterflies represent life- both are beautiful, fragile, and ephemeral. Sentience is an acrylic on canvas, 6″ wide by 6″high. You can view it online here: https://amyguidry.com/sentience.html and view more “butterfly eyes” paintings from the series here: https://amyguidry.com/gallery.html.

Just finished this small painting from my In Our Veins series. Cohaereo, which is Latin for connected, is an acrylic on canvas, 4″ by 4.” The rabbit wears a collar of roses atop an exposed heart. The heart on the outside of the body serves as a reminder of our shared biology with all of life. The butterflies are a metaphor for life in that both are beautiful, fragile, and ephemeral. You can view the painting online here: https://amyguidry.com/Cohaereo.html.
