New Realm- New Work

Two pieces to mention from the New Realm series.  These are 5″ x 5″ paintings from the aptly titled, New Realm 5 x 5 series.  Both paintings feature the heroine of the story as well as the butterflies.  The top piece is titled “Daybreak.”  This was fairly time-consuming given all the butterflies in the painting.  However, I was rather happy with the outcome, so well worth the challenge.

The bottom piece is titled “Morning.”  This is also part of the 5 x 5 series. This painting stems from the large New Realm piece, “Renewal.”  Both have the same concept behind them- that of change, a new day, a fresh start.

Both of these new paintings will be featured in my upcoming solo exhibition at the Schepis Museum in Columbia, LA next month. The entire New Realm series, including the 5 x 5 series will be on exhibit.

Lots going on this week, so I am posting yet again.  Making up for lost time, right?  I have a new painting finished.  It is from the New Realm series.  It’s called “Renewal” and it is 48″ x 24.”  This will be in my upcoming solo exhibition at the Schepis Museum in Columbia, LA.

The piece features the heroine of the series as well as the butterflies, albeit in their cocoon stage.  One of the butterflies does break free from the cocoon.  Dew drops are interspersed on the branch as well.  The cocoons and the dew drops represent morning, or renewal, the start of a something new.

Okay, if you are a regular reader of this blog, you may recall me mentioning a great review of my work in Las Vegas CityLife magazine. Well, you can now finally read it on my website. For all my local readers, and maybe those so in love with my work they are willing to travel to Lafayette, LA to see it, I will be having another solo exhibit at Galerie Lafayette in October of 2009! The previous solo show I had there was packed with people, no kidding, and the work was very well-received. It’s a great space- huge, too, so I will be putting a lot of work in there- so this exhibit will not disappoint! No, I’m not referring to any movies… I have a solo exhibit coming up next year. This is the first ground-breaking news regarding this exhibit, so consider yourself special. My New Realm series will make its way to the Schepis Museum in Columbia, Louisiana in 2009. I don’t have all the details just yet, but the show is slated for March and April of 2009. So, yes, this will be a two-month exhibit as opposed to the usual month long ones of most places.

Guaranteed there will be new work and some you may already be familiar with in the show. If you don’t know by now, you can view my work on my website at www.AmyGuidry.com. As for the opening reception and show dates, I will have those details at a later date. Okay, that was a play on V for Vendetta…  I’m running out of catchy titles.  Anyway, you should remember the 13th of September, this Saturday, because it’s the opening of my New Realm solo exhibit at Henri & Odette!  This will be the debut of my series in Las Vegas!  So if you live in Vegas, are going to Vegas, or know anyone in Vegas, be sure to check out my show.  This work has had a lot of buzz, so come see what it’s all about.

The opening reception is from 6-8pm at Henri & Odette on the 13th.  The show will be on display through October 22nd, so if you can’t make it (and why not?) you can still catch the show later.  The gallery is located at 124 South Sixth Street, Suite 130, in Las Vegas, Nevada of course.
